Women。This is a beautiful brown straw wide brim hat from the glorious 1940s\'! The short crown is indented last the top, and is surrounded by a wide brim. Around the crown there is a brown grosgrain band that features 4 metal round studs at the front. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to keep it in a tilted position.
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these.
Label: NEW YORK CREATION plus Store Label: I. MAGNIN
The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City & the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue & most of the time it states the hat size…22 or 23, or ADJUSTABLE.
This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
