Vintage 40s/50s black velvet hat with satin ribbon Excellent 。This very stylish 1930s\' black felt hat is a round, flat crown which is indented at the top. There is a black felt strap to hold the hat in a tilted position. One side of the strap is trimmed with two felt \"flowers\". There was a technique used in millinery of the era in which pieces of felt were heavily starched and pressed in special molds to mimic flower petals. The hat look is finished with a black veil, which can cover the face or placed on top towards the bak of the head. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
