Vintage 1940s black tilt - Gem。This a high fashion tilt hat from the amazing millinery fashions of the 1940s\'! The felt hat\'s beautiful standout features are the intricate red topstitching that create almost an ombre effect. The crown is round and flat, and is crossed by 2 bands of red topstitched bands ending in points and crisscrossing at one side on top. At the back there is an extension \"cap\" with a felt bow and there is an elastic band attached to the inside. Both help keep the hat in a tilted position.
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
